Rudy to Target 2015 Epsom Handicap

August 11th, 2015

Trainer Helen Page was understandably thrilled with the results posted by stable star Rudy during the recent Sydney Autumn Carnival and has revealed the five-year-old will be set for the 2015 Epsom Handicap (1600m) upon resuming this season.

Rudy has been a strong and consistent performer for Page since first appearing on course competitively during the 2013 winter; posting seven wins and a further five minors through 23 competitive starts to date.

Having booked ballot-free entry into the 2015 Doncaster Mile with success in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) during a strong summer campaign, the son of Red Dazzler began his campaign a close second in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) and while unable to figure in his next two starts, produced a career-best performance to run fourth in the Doncaster.

Rudy is set to complete a barrier trial in Queensland on Tuesday morning before being set on a course from a first-up run at Doomben later this month.

“He will trial on Tuesday and then we plan to push on to a 1350 metre race at Doomben on August 22,” Page told AAP.

“After that we will work out exactly how we will proceed to the Epsom.”

Arguably finding peak condition for the first time through a competitive 2014 Winter Carnival campaign, Rudy won a pair of minor Brisbane sprints before placing a credible third in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1600m) and Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) most notably.

Returning in summer for close second place finishes in the Qantac Pty Ltd Handicap (1200m) and Padua College Open (1350m), Rudy returned to the winner’s circle in the Listed Recognition Stakes (1630m) in what was his only other start prior to his Villiers Stakes triumph.

Group 1 performer Teronado will also trial with Rudy on Monday morning and will be set for the George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on September 19th.

“If things go OK we might take him back to Sydney for another crack at the George Main Stakes,” owner Steve Foster said. is currently offering the best early odds on all major races through the 2015 Spring Carnival!
