The 2011 Epsom Handicap is drawing near and as a result the top chances are becoming more and more clear by the week.
In fact this weekend at Rosehill Gardens there is a mountain of interest for punters looking further forward to the Epsom Handicap.
On such horse is without a doubt Secret Admirer which is currently second on the Luxbet Epsom Handicap betting market.
She’s sitting at a quote of $5 in the all in market and her run this Saturday will be crucial as to what happens to it from there.
She will contest the Shannon Stakes, a race that has a fair spattering of talent but trainer Grahame Begg knows it’s a field she needs to beat if she’s a genuine Epsom contender.
So far this carnival she’s run well without winning, finishing second to red Tracer first up and then second to Sincero last start in the Tramway Handicap.
“My horses keep finishing second but at least we are in contention and I’m pleased to be a part of it (the carnival),” Begg said.
Secret Admirer will run in the Epsom Handicap before being sent to the Cox Plate in an audacious dual Group 1 program.
“That’s the main reason why I’ve waited three weeks between the Tramway and the Shannon,” Begg said.
“The seven-day back-up agrees with her … it’s worked before with the Flight Stakes last year.
“I’m hoping history can repeat itself.
“For a Group One winner I think she is fairly handicapped in the Epsom.”
Begg has taken plenty of confidence from the fact she only went down a nose to Sincero in the Tramway.
“The Tramway has turned out to be a great form race with Sincero and (third-placed) Thankgodyou’rehere coming out and winning,” Begg said.
It appears as if Secret Admirer will be given 52.5kg in the Epsom Handicap, a distinct advantage considering the likes of fellow three year old Group 1 champion Ilovethiscity will have 55.5kg.
Sincero remains the 2011 Epsom Handicap favourite though with Ilovethiscity behind Secret Admirer in third.
From there there’s a gap back to trusting, Foreteller, Fast Clip and Thankgodyou’rehere.
