Pressday is already a Group 1 winner but the 2011 Epsom Handicap could be one more notch on his resume later in the year.
The colt had a barrier trial at Rosehill today as he nears the end of preparations before one final spring campaign.
After a highly successful juvenile career connections are looking for a couple of extra stakes wins to boost his value as a stallion prospect.
Pressday won the Group 1 TJ Smith in 2010 but as a three year old he hasn’t found the same level of dominance.
He was sold by Chris Waller and the owners to Eliza Park Stud who want one more spring tilt before offering him as a sire.
“Pressday will be in Eliza Park’s colours and race on this season,” Waller said.
“He is being aimed at the Epsom Handicap and the Cox Plate.
“He has matured a lot mentally which will help him. I’m very pleased with how he has come back.”
His runs as a three year old haven’t gone to plan so far with things going wrong from the very start.
He reared in the stalls during the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Classic and never regained his spot in the race coming home in 11th spot at least eight lengths off the winner.
He did score one good win late last year though when he won the Sandown Guineas before heading to the spelling paddock.
Back in the Autumn though he was up to his same old tricks when he once again reared in the stalls and missed the jump in the Hobartville Stakes.
His final run in Sydney last prep was in the Randwick Guineas where he improved somewhat but could only manage a fifth to Ilovethiscity.
So far he’s started 11 times and won five of them from 1000m right up to a mile.
Importantly though four of his five wins have been in black type events with the Group 2 Champagne Classic and Group 2 Sire’s Produce Stakes added to his Group 1 triumph.
